Why is image mistakenly seen as important?

Humans are very judgemental. We automatically look at someone and before we even speak to them. We judge them upon their appearance. You're judged upon your appearance at a job interview, if you are auditioning for a band, even at some work places you are given a uniform to look a certain way, to fit in with everyone else. Humans care about what others think because we are social beings.
